Antimalarial Activity of the Crude Extract and Solvent Fractions of the Stem of Momordica Charantia in Plasmodium Berghei Infected Mice

ntroduction:The emergence and rapid spread of multidrug-resistant Plasmodium strains, especially falciparum, has become a major concern for health professionals when it comes to malaria prophylaxis treatment, limiting medication options, necessitating the search new antimalarial drugs derived from plants. In mice infected with berghei, function Momordica charantia stem crude methanolic extract solvent fractions (hexane, ethyl acetate, aqueous) was examined. Method:Starting on day infection identified, were administered continuously four days. Tween 80 (0.3 ml) given control group, while standard reference chloroquine (10 mg/kgbw) arteether (3 which three The tested activity in berghei using four-day suppressive test. Result: At 500 mg/kgbw, extract, hexane fraction, acetate aqueous fraction developed 80.62, 90.09, 91.23, 81.72 per cent chemosuppression respectively, 6 after infection. Chemosuppression 100% 90% arteether. Conclusion: These results showed that had antiplasmodial efficacy comparable drug, indicating plant could be used as natural agent.
